Oh, Those Marvelous Magical Medicinal Mushrooms! |
|
No, this isn’t a new tongue twister similar to “She sells seashells down by the sea shore,” it’s a brief discussion of medicinal mushrooms and what they might mean to your health. Medicinal mushrooms such as Ganoderma have been used for thousands of years in Chinese medicine for the treatment of various ailments and to ward off ill health. Other lesser known Medicinal Mushrooms were used in ancient times. In fact, a mummified man nicknamed Otzi the Iceman, who lived about 5300 years ago and was discovered in the Italian Alps in 1991, had two polypore mushrooms among his possessions, one of these a known antibacterial. In ancient Japan, the maitake mushroom was used for medicinal purposes and was literally worth its weight in silver! Isn’t it ironic that this so-called modern civilization of ours has turned away from natural remedies such as the Medicinal Mushrooms used by our ancestors far back in the mists of time in favor of man made, often toxic drugs with a list of horrendous side effects as long as the Great Wall of China? And we call this progress? It’s true that there has been tremendous progress in medicine and that countless lives have been saved by the use of vaccines, antibiotics, surgical procedures and more. But by the same token, all one has to do is read the news to know that many of the modern prescription drugs cause more health problems than the condition they were used to treat. For example, if a statin drug given to lower cholesterol ends up causing irreversible liver damage or kidney failure, isn’t this a classic case of throwing out the baby with the bath water? Imagine telling someone hooked up to a dialysis machine due to kidney failure caused by taking a statin that at least his/her cholesterol is lower? This would probably afford scant comfort! Finally, modern man seems to be waking up and facing the grim reality about overuse of prescription drugs, and exploring the use of Natural Remedies such as Medicinal Mushrooms like Ganoderma. Have we come full circle? Not totally, but more and more people are deciding to take control of their own health by natural methods that are in sync with nature and with the human body. Do you dream of regaining the boundless energy you had in your youth, or at least some of it? Do you wish you could awaken each morning bursting with vitality---ready, willing and able to meet the new day? Are you tired and listless most of the time, feeling dragged down and weary to your aching bones? If your answer is yes, you may want to consider giving Medicinal Mushrooms a chance to help you get back on the fast track to a healthy, vibrant state of wellbeing such as nature intended! An ancient medical practitioner from the Chinese Ming Dynasty had this to say about Ganoderma in the medical dictionary Bencao Gangmu: “Continuous consumption of Ganoderma makes your body light and young, lengthening life and making you like an immortal who never dies.” Wow! While this may be overblown praise, the fact is that Medicinal Mushrooms have been shown to be beneficial to health and wellness, so why not introduce them into your own life today….and start building a better, healthier tomorrow?
