Some Info About Spirulina
Spirulina is a form of algae. Blue green in color, it is found in warm, fresh bodies of water. A very basic little organism made up of only one cell, Spirulina was being used as a source of food clear back to the 9th century in Chad, which is a country in the middle section of Africa.
Historians believe that Spirulina was used by the ancient Aztecs as records from that time reference the harvesting of Spirulina from Lake Texcoco in Mexico and selling cakes made from it.
In the 1950s, Spirulina was rediscovered by scientists in Chad, where it was a staple food in native diets.
It took until the 1970s for Spirulina to start being commercially harvested and produced. A French company led the way with Japan and the United States following within the next few years.
